Power Moves: Ellen DeGeneres Sells $34M Montecito Home to Ted Sarandos, Who In Turn Just Sold $21.3M Malibu Home to Robbie Williams

It was only last year that Netflix content guru Ted Sarandos finally sold his home in Beverly Hills. He’d had the home on the market for nearly two years when it finally sold for $8.8 million last summer. Two months later, he picked up a house in Malibu, paying $20 million for a 4-and-4 contemporary waterfront villa.

But a meteoric rise lends itself to a certain degree of restlessness; it’s difficult to settle down for long before hearing the siren song of a new idyll. So it’s out of Malibu, and into Montecito; Sarandos recently sold the Malibu home for $21.25 million—quietly—to singer Robbie Williams, and picked up a property in the highly desirable—and, despite the turbulence of this year, far quieter—enclave northwest of the colony.

The Malibu house may be nestled in a verdant, bluff-side corner, but the Montecito home has acreage. And the shift in interior design moves away from the Japanese-inflected Northwest rustic of the Malibu house, and toward the stone-and-timber Italianate of the Montecito home. The seller was none other than Ellen DeGeneres, who’s been known to also be fickle when it comes to putting down residential roots. Still and all, selling the architectural landmark she and Portia de Rossi so sensitively renovated must’ve been a little difficult, even with $34 million as a consolation.

As for Sarandos, he should be set for at least a little while. He’s now living in a corner of Southern California that is as close an approximation to the Italian Riviera as you can find in the United States.
