Iconic rock star-turned-painter John Mellencamp has purchased a SoHo apartment for $2.3 million.

Mellencamp’s new digs are located on the first floor of a classic converted industrial building in the SoHo neighborhood of NYC. The special 1,800-square-foot live-work space is updated and renovated with a number of chic features, but retains its warmth, history, and utilitarian appeal.

In addition to 13-foot ceilings, the singer’s new unit boasts two bedrooms, two bathrooms, polished concrete floors, and white exposed brick walls. The main living space especially stands out with its unique trapezoidal shape that’s connected to a small kitchen and dining space.

Much of the unit’s space is dedicated to Mellencamp’s studio: a windowless space in the back of the unit complete with a small office area and lofted storage.

Last year, Mellencamp released his 23rd studio album: “Sad Clowns and Hillbillies.” The talented star has also become known as an accomplished portrait artist, however, and now has the space to further develop as a painter.
