German audio brand Sennheiser has introduced its new set of headphones, and the $2,400 cans don’t disappoint. Reconciling the appeal of their HD 800 in a closed-back design, the ‘phones offer audiophiles soundstaging which is almost…well, unheard of.

The HD 820 headphones are unique in that they combine the look of an open-backed set while offering the sound reproduction of traditional closed-back headphone designs. And they do just that: the new headphones sport a frequency response of 12 Hz to 43.8 kHz with a sound pressure level of 103 dB.

Since open-backed headphones aren’t suited for a loud space, owners of the new Sennheiser set can sport the special look while also enjoying excellent sound production when in a loud space.

The problem with traditional closed-back designs is that transparency and audio quality can be reduced. Sennheiser has that covered. The design of the HD 820 is the best of both worlds. The transparent, closed-back headphones produce natural sounds, mimicking an open-back experience while canceling background noise thanks to curved Gorilla glass covers.

The pared-back build matches well with a metal headband and microfiber earpads for a sleek and modern look that is incredibly comfortable for long listening sessions. Sennheiser’s HD 820 headphones will be available in the next few months.
