“Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close” author Jonathan Safran-Foer has relisted his New York City townhouse for $9 million.

Located at 374 Pacific Street in Boerum Hill, the now-luxurious home has a bit of a storied history. The townhome was once in such deplorable condition that neighbors received a million-dollar payout after its auction as repayment for living adjacent to years of neglect.

After a comprehensive makeover, Safran-Foer scooped up the property in 2014, and it’s since been additionally updated to writerly taste with walls of bookcases and a sleek interior style. The modern and cozy townhome boasts luxe features like herringbone wood floors, extra-tall ceilings, and a playfully chic molded spindle staircase.

And, at 8,000 square feet, the eight-bedroom, five-bath home is spacious, but it’s the details that are most striking: a three-story atrium, a custom kitchen, a wood-burning fireplace, and expansive windows top the list.

However, even in its evolved state, the townhouse has yet to find a buyer after nearly a year on the market. Perhaps things are looking up for Mr. Safran-Foer, though: a new broker and a reduced price (down from $10.5 million) could likely stimulate the imagination and the purchasing desire of the right buyer.
