Olympus Announces Two New Pro-Level f/1:1.2mm Lenses

Camera company Olympus has introduced a pair of new professional-level f/1.2mm lenses. The superfast lenses are now available, and represent a return to form for the company, reminding grey-haired enthusiasts of the high-performance Olympus cameras of the 1970’s and 1980’s: lightweight, indestructible, and exquisitely constructed.

Offering advanced low-light performance and shallow depth of field for Micro Four Thirds shooters, the 45mm and 17mm f/1.2 lenses are a great option for professional photographers, presenting the broadest creative potential available in a straight-ahead lens.

Introduced just in time for the 2017 Photo Plus Expo, both of the new additions to Olympus’ Pro lineup boast f/1.2 apertures, almost-silent autofocus motors, 15 elements in 11 groups, and nanocoatings, in addition to being dust- and weather-sealed.

Ideal for cameras like the Mark II, the 17mm option now blends a wide angle with a fast aperture, making it a good choice for event or street photography regardless of the lighting conditions. Olympus’ M.Zuiko 45mm F1.2 Pro is worth checking out as well; it features a 90mm full-frame equivalent field of view that makes it a great choice for portrait photography. Designed with 14 lens elements in 10 groups, photogs will be especially drawn to the “feathered bokeh” focus roll-off for fluid opertation.

Interested customers can get their hands on the 45mm F1.2 Pro this month, but you’ll have to wait until January for the 17mm F1.2 Pro. Both lenses are priced at $1,200 each.
