The name Fender has deep associations in American popular music. Their iconic model, the expressive Stratocaster, was initially intended as a country and rockabilly instrument, until Jimi Hendrix got ahold of one. The twangy Telecaster was initially favored by country players, but came to be preferred by rock and even a few notable jazz players.

So it should come as no surprise that the brand has extended its musical interests into playback by introduced its first wireless speakers. Fender calls the models the Monterey and Newport, taking the names of two of the most famous music festivals ever staged.

The Monterey and Newport speakers are both Bluetooth-enabled and guaranteed to produce Fender’s “signature sound.” Inspired by the brand’s guitar amps, which are generally regarded as the highest expression of tube amp design, the speakers boast a protective grille and amp-style control knobs.

Capable of connecting to Bluetooth devices within 33 feet, the speakers also include a built-in microphone so owners can make phone calls. In addition to aptX technology and support for AAC music files, the speakers also feature echo cancellation for crystal-clear sound.

Monterey is available for $350 and is targeted toward audiophiles with two woofers, two tweeters, and a quad-driver system. Listeners will enjoy the 3.5 mm aux input and two RCA jacks, making music connection easier than ever.

The Newport speaker was designed with portability in mind and is available for $200. Crafted with two full-range drivers and a 30 W tweeter, Newport ensures great sound with a battery life of up to 12 hours. It also includes a USB port for charging mobile devices.
