Entertainment exec and impresario Jeff Kwatinetz has put his loft apartment in the Noho neighborhood of Greenwich Village up for sale. The industry mover and shaker is asking $10 million for the property, a bedazzling blend of urbane sophistication and flashy contemporary detachment.
The loft apartment is located in copper-capped Bleecker Tower, a residential repurpose of a late 19th century building which once housed the Manhattan Savings bank, site of the most spectacularly brash robbery of the era.
At over 2,800 square feet, and with only one bedroom, the co-op loft is more or less an upscale single’s pad, a pied-a-terre or retreat for the well-heeled itinerant businessman or peripatetic professional.
Among the home’s more notable design features—and there are more than a few—is the array of arched, mahogany-clad series windows in the living area, a flourish which calls to mind European country homes. The motif is carried throughout the home with the nicely grained plank hardwood flooring. The loft has a heady sense of scale, and all the hardwood grounds it well.
The apartment’s kitchen is designed for entertaining, and is equipped with a pair of ovens, refrigerators and dishwashers for catering; it also features a wine refrigerator. Hardwood cabinetry, marble countertops, a stainless wall, and a well-proportioned center island mix functionality with beauty.
The bedroom suite and library also deserves special mention. The bedroom is tastefully rendered, but the master bath is extraordinary—or, more accurately, the custom steel spiral staircase is extraordinary. A sudden industrial and decorative flourish, it has no apparent function, but stands as a sudden spasm of sculptural expression and, oddly, may work well in that respect, depending on your point of view.
The library is very well executed, avoiding the ponderous paneling and Victorian embellishments which announce well-read in capital lettering. Floor-to-ceiling built-ins are finished in black, and tile floors and wood trim add warmth while Lutron lighting keep the room footed in the here and now. The apartment’s layout links this room with a second bath, so it might easily be converted into another bedroom.
Kwatinetz founded talent management company The Firm, and serves as its CEO. He has brought artists as diverse as Snoop Dogg, Enrique Iglesias, and Jennifer Lopez into the limelight.
