Former Paramount chairman Jonathan Dolgen has sold his home in Malibu for $18 million. The executive, who has worked for Viacom and ArtistDirect, listed the property about two months ago with an asking price of $18.5 million; he purchased the home about twenty years ago, for $3.8 million.
Situated in the Colony, the waterfront house features 48’ of beach frontage, brick patios and walkways, and a design influenced by cottages of the English countryside. The vine-covered streetside exterior is distinguished by a heavy use of brick and exposed timbers.
The construction dates to 1928, but the interiors are quite contemporary. The exterior of the home, rendered in dark earth-tones, is pleasingly contrasted by the interiors, which are bright, open, and airy, with mid-toned hardwood floors, plentiful glass, and recessed lighting.
The master suite features a fireplace with a raised hearth flanked by built-ins, and defines the home with a cottage-like warmth of atmosphere. The vaulted ceiling gives the room a lovely sense of space. The master also features a sitting alcove, and a glass door which opens broadly onto the deck. The room’s whitewash and natural finished hardwood give it the pleasingly washed-out look, suggesting old Malibu. The room’s arched ceiling embellishments extend to the master bath, lending a softening influence.
The property exterior, beachside, features a brick patio and a tiered deck with spa and sun lounge. There is a small, detached guest house on the property, with a very rustic bedroom. Between the two residences there are 6,343 square feet, five bedrooms, and six baths.
Dolgen was at Viacom from 2003-2010, and is currently a director at Expedia.
