Former pro racing cyclist Greg LeMond has listed a 40-acre estate in Minnesota for $4.985 million. LeMond purchased the home in the 1990’s.

The neo Georgian-style home dates to 1988, and measures 11,550 square feet; it contains six bedrooms, seven baths, and three half-baths throughout. The façade is marked by a brick exterior, a soaring portico entrance supported by four columns, first floor Palladian windows, and a hipped roofline.

Extensively and continuously updated, the home features a beaux-arts influenced layout and aesthetic, offering a majestic staircase and foyer immediately upon entry; the staircase leads into a double gallery on the second floor. Floors are plank or herringbone-pattern oak throughout, but for the foyer, which is floored in marble tile.

The living room is large and bright, and features three sets of French doors which open onto a flagstone terrace with brick pilasters and a wood balustrade; the room contains a grand fireplace, and an arcade wall. The house also contains a library with floor-to-ceiling carved wood built-ins and a marble fireplace with hearth step, and a charming day room/sun room off the kitchen, both with French door access to the property exterior. The house also contains a games room with wet bar; the original Asteroids stand-up arcade unit may be available, at a price.

The master suite is quite spacious, and features a very nicely executed walk-in closet and dressing room, as well as a bathroom with period-style fixtures. All bedrooms are en-suite, with one dedicated as a guest or staff room with kitchenette.

A country estate, the home’s acreage is densely forested, and the property is located in a semi-rural, sylvan stretch of Twin Cities suburbia.

LeMond retired from professional racing in 1994, having become the first American rider to win the Road World Championship, and the first non-European to win the Tour de France; he won the Tour three times, in 1986, 1989 and 1990.
