Actress Mindy Kaling accepted an offer for her home in Hollywood Hills West. The comedienne accepted an offer of $1.6 million for the smallish house, a glassy 1920’s build with a bit of Spanish influence and terrific city views.
At 1,600 square feet, the house is quite compact, but its open-concept lower floor makes fine use of the space available, and all the windows added during a renovation have liberated it and brought the Los Angeles cityscape more readily into proximity.
A platform of natural-finished hardwood distinguishes the interior, with room division marked by pillars and a step-down living room. A stacked concrete fireplace with a raised hearth has been whitewashed for contrast, and the cobalt-blue tile in the kitchen offers some cooling down from the effect of all the wood. Maple or birch cabinetry in the kitchen gives the room a pleasant cottage-inspired feel, and stainless appliances keep things contemporary.
The property extends to a little over a tenth of an acre—a small house lot—but manages to work in some nice landscaping, a few palms, and uses a detached pergola to command a bit of leisure space. A second, attached pergola extends from the roof over the second-floor terrace, and stacked stone walls and steps add a little historical charm.
Kaling is best known for her role on ‘The Mindy Project’; she also played the character Kelly on the long-running series ‘The Office.’ She’s had two books on the NTY Bestseller List, both memoir/anecdotal, which she published in 2011 and 2015.
