Film producer Basil Iwanyk recently sold a home in Los Angeles after two years on and off the market; Iwanyk accepted an offer of $5.2 million for the home, which he purchased in 2007 for a little less than $5 million.

A Monterey colonial-style house at heart, the residence has grown into a larger and less defined statement, and from the back is more California vernacular. It measures more than 4,600 square feet, with five bedrooms and six baths throughout.

The home’s interior features much in the way of competing statements, providing a few nice surprises. The panoramic wallpaper in the dining room is tasteful and reminiscent of fin-de-siècle sensibilities, and textured wall covering in the foyer and connecting halls, probably linen, provides a relief effect without imposing on the sense of space.

The house features original hardwood nearly throughout, with floors finished fairly dark; tile floors in the den, which opens broadly onto the property, and in the kitchen address functional need and spark visual interest. The kitchen features a harlequin effect, for a French country-style effect that is playful, casual, and charming. A family room with three sets of French doors opens to the lawn and children’s play area.

Exterior spaces include the characteristic Monterey second-floor balcony, a set of brick steps leading up to the elevated pool/patio lounge area, and some designated lawn space.

Iwanyk’s production company is Thunder Road Pictures; Iwanyk founded the company, which has produced thirteen finished films to date, including ‘The Town,’ ‘Sicario,’ and this year’s ‘John Wick: Chapter Two.’
