Meg Ryan has purchased a unit in what must be one of the most currently talked-about residential buildings in Manhattan: 443 Greenwich. The actress and hobbyist home-renovator picked up a mid-sized unit in the flashy green-minded building, which incorporates gardens and communal areas.
Ryan’s apartment measures a little more than 3,150 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and 3.5 baths. All bedrooms are en-suite, and the unit’s loft-design gapes with a broad open-concept common area and 12’ ceilings. The building’s renovation ethos is fashionably green, and units feature reclaimed supports and crossbeams that lend a nice sense of history, evoking the building’s industrial past as a reference point.
Units in the building also employ a good measure of Eastern influence; ornament is kept to a minimum, and the apartments as-sold find an expression through light, space and simplicity which is tempered with the use of high-end materials, kitchen appliances and bathroom fixtures. Kitchens were designed by Christopher Peacock. Apartments feature a blend of wood finishes, whitewash, and natural stone for a fundamental tonal and textural variation.
Amenities in the building include a huge central common garden, a Roman-style travertine-lined pool, and a tile-lined underground parking garage. The building dates to the 19th century, and was, in its industrial heyday, a manufacturer of everything from books to steel wool.
Meg Ryan’s inspired residential renovations include a Soho loft which is currently on the market at around $11 million. She made her directorial debut with last year’s ‘Ithaca’; the film starred Ryan and Tom Hanks.
