Chris Rock’s Carriage House in Brooklyn Hits the Market for $3.9M

Comedian and actor Chris Rock is selling his historic carriage house in Brooklyn. The performer is asking $3.85 million for the property, which he purchased in 1994. Rock had offered the residence as a rental in the past few years, at $7500/monthly, but apparently decided it was time to part with it definitively.

The home dates to 1901, and measures 3,700 square feet. It contains three bedrooms and 2.5 baths.

The home’s historic appeal is intoxicating. The interior has been allowed to remain a functional statement, with original brick walls, narrow-plank hardwood flooring, and open ceiling. In the main living area, a track lighting fixture gives the house a 1990’s vintage feel.

The open-concept common living space incorporates a kitchen, dayroom, and living room in one fluid progression. The kitchen uses vintage diner stools for the breakfast bar.

Other original details include a spectacular spiral staircase between the second and third floors, the remains of period machinery, and, in the substantial master suite, a pot-bellied iron stove, and a set of sliding wood doors with stained glass panels that open onto a vestry-like private sitting area. Beyond it, there are glass doors allowing access to the master terrace. It’s a spectacular charming suite, and the 12’ ceilings are further liberated by skylights.

There is a rooftop deck, as well as a sheltered garden-level alcove in brick, with an attached pergola.

Chris Rock appeared most recently in ‘Sandy Wexler’; the satirist is currently on tour.
