Never let a good marketing opportunity pass by unexploited. In the spirit of this fundamental principle of new economy salesmanship, and the concomitant idea that a special edition with a masterful press release is very smart advertising indeed, Land Rover is highlighting the Halewood plant’s extraordinary production numbers of the popular Evoque crossover SUV. The plant has rolled some 600,000 Evoques off the line, and Land Rover is celebrating its sales in U.K. salesrooms with a limited-edition variation: the Evoque Landmark Special Edition.

To be sure, the company has something to crow about. The Evoque model fills out the Land Rover catalog as an entry level vehicle, with the Discovery and wild-card Velar in the middle tier, and the Range Rover models still royalty. The Evoque model has the benefit of looking more youthfully contemporary than its brethren, it’s priced right for young professionals looking for a first new car, and it’s brought home accolades for the company, including the 2012 World Design Car Award.

The special edition release brings the base price up a little bit, from about $41K to $50K, which puts it in league with the Velar and Discovery, but the company is relying on the Landmark Special Edition to sell itself with exclusive cosmetics, a more aggressive-looking body kit, and upgraded tech.

Cosmetic touches to the Landmark Special Edition Evoque include Moraine Blue, Yulong White and Corris Grey. Accents are in grey tones, with a Carpathian Grey panoramic roof, 19” gloss wheels in dark grey, and graphite-colored front- and back-end components for sports appeal. The cabin is outfitted in ebony leather with Light Lunar contrast stitching and brushed satin trim.

As far as tech, the Evoque Landmark gets a 10” touchscreen-controlled infotainment system with 4G connectivity, and apps aplenty. A series of options includes tech improvements.

Land Rover did not indicate that the model will reach U.S. shores.

The Evoque Landmark Special Edition is the latest in a proliferation of model variants as Land Rover expands on the car’s appeal and sales numbers. Other variations have included a Hong Kong-only model, and a convertible.
