GoPro first teased a consumer 360-degree camera model all the way back at CES 2016, what might as well have been a decade ago in tech years. Now the new GoPro is here.

The company isn’t one to rest on its laurels, and the GoPro Fusion represents a considerable step forward for video: the ability to shoot 5.2K video at up to 30 frames per second. That’s considerably better video quality than the 4K capable Samsung Gear 360 and Nikon KeyMission 360 cameras currently available, which represent GoPro’s primary competition.

GoPro didn’t release any further specifications about the Fusion, or pricing information, only that it would be set for a limited commercial release toward the end of 2017. The Fusion will, however, be available for select agencies, brands, and content professionals as soon as this summer as part of a pilot program for the new device.

In the press release announcing the new GoPro Fusion, the company calls its 360-degree video technology OverCapture, which basically pulls HD imagery from the 5.2K recording bubble.

“Fusion is just that, the ability to capture every angle simultaneously… as though you had six GoPro cameras fused into one,” GoPro CEO Nick Woodman said about his new camera.
