Architects aren’t only relegated to the design of larger structures. They many times try their hand at designing consumer products, too. Occasionally they hit one out of the park, and bring a useful item to the marketplace that surprises with its approach to form.

This is the case with the new Master and Dynamic MA77 Concrete Speaker, which was designed by Sir David Adjaye, the architect who designed the National Museum of African American History and Culture in Washington, and the Nobel Peace Center in Oslo.

The MA77 Concrete Speaker is crafted using a unique range of materials. The body is molded out of handcrafted and sealed concrete composite, and the 4-inch woofers are made using Kevlar. The tweeters have a titanium body, and rounding it all out are controls made of diamond-cut, anodized aluminum.

Thanks to the materials and design, the speaker creates unbelievable sound without causing the earth to shatter. The volume may be set at maximum and the speakers won’t cause the floor to vibrate, which should keep the neighbors from complaining, unless you like to spin your Art Blakey SACDs at three in the morning.

The MA77 Concrete Speaker boasts Bluetooth connection and an integrated Chromecast option. Master and Dynamic asks $1,800 for the Adjaye-designed speaker.
