Ritual Rush: Hennessey’s ‘Exorcist’ Camaro ZL1

For the fringe priest on the go, there’s the Hennessey Exorcist, a tuned take on a ZL1 Camaro. Is it an elemental-interceptor? Is it a bat out of hell? Perhaps a little of both. But it certainly is damned fast, and designed to go to work on the Dodge Challenger Demon.

Boasting a biblical 1,000 horsepower of thrust, and over 966 lb-ft of torque, the Exorcist will get you from zero to sixty in less than three seconds. Hennessey took the original 6.2L supercharged V8 engine, and tuned it up from its standard horsepower and torque ratings of about 650 and 650. The original supercharger and intercooler have been replaced with a larger system with better airflow, and that’s just the beginning of the mechanical upgrades. Add long-tube headers, an improved camshaft, and ported cylinder heads to the list, too.

The transmission on the Exorcist cars will be a six-speed manual, or ten-speed automatic; but, if you elect an automatic option, Hennessey insists on a surcharge for an upgrade to prevent the tuned engine from overwhelming the gearbox.

It’s up to prospective Exorcist owners to provide their own ZL1 to Hennessey for conversion into the holy roller. And, the process isn’t inexpensive. The Exorcist package will run buyers about $55K, without the additional automatic transmission upgrade; that’s about an additional $10K.

The Exorcist is sure to turn heads up to 180 degrees.
