Vashon Island, Washington is located only a short distance from Seattle, but the only way to reach it is by water taxi or by ferry. A 1990’s bridge project which would have opened up the island to exploitation was defeated by residents, so Vashon has retained the comfortable insularity of island life.

This estate on Vashon—known as Misty Isle Farms—was at one time the home of a distribution conglomerate founder; it was constructed in 1980. $28 million is the asking price of this sizeable slice of Washington State real estate, which may be purposed as a working farm, an estate, or both. It has been on and off the market for over ten years, and was first listed with a sanguine ask of $125 million. Several reductions over the past few years have brought the property to its current and more reasonable asking price.

The house is large, modern, and bright; it holds few surprises, but it represents a pleasing enough blend of the contemporary urban and the rural rustic. Materials and finishes vary, from the pine or sandstone tile floors and wood ceilings used for the interior, to the concrete used for the pool and lounge area outside. The house measures 6,500 square feet, and contains five bedrooms, 4.5 baths, a large wine cellar, and a huge open-concept common living area.

The real attraction, though, is the 525 acre plot of land, comprised of 44 individual parcels. There are eight miles of trails, as well as a 60-acre, 3,000-tree arboretum amid rolling lawns, fields, and gardens.

The property includes a private landing strip and helipad.
