Hamann Improves on Perfection with a Custom Jaguar F-Pace

Tuner Hamann unveiled their modified Jaguar F-Pace at the Geneva Motor Show. The tuned F-Pace gets a face lift, yes, and a tweaked drivetrain, and associated performance upgrades. But the Hamann F-Pace is, like the efforts of many contemporary tuning specialists, less about what’s under the hood than cosmetics.

So the Hamann F-Pace is a mean looking customer. It’s meant to look as aggressive as possible and, in that way, its front-end design elements and body aesthetics resemble those of a large U.S.-made pickup; surely the target demographic is essentially identical, only wealthier.

As far as mechanical upgrades for gas engine equipped F-Pace models, the Hamann F-Pace takes the max-380 horsepower production car and brings it up to 410. Pound feet of torque tops out, in the tuned vehicle, at 376. Unsurprisingly, Hamann achieves much of the power increase by dialing down the ECO. A new exhaust installed by the company improves airflow over the production model.

But, really, it’s cosmetics that distinguish the Hamann-tuned example. An aerodynamic kit adds drama, rendering the fascia more imposing, but not overly bad-tempered. Front fender extensions, and a sculptural rear diffuser add a little more individuality, as do the custom lightweight wheels, at a not insignificant 23 inches. Wheel finish colors include tones popular in Gotham City: grey, silver, black. The interior gets custom trim, motorized aluminum footrests, and special floormats.

As a badge of individuality, a tuned vehicle like this is really only part of the way there; it’s like an item advertised as ‘limited edition’: finite, yes, but far from singular. Still, Hamann takes its business seriously, and certainly knows its target customer.
