Producer Andrew Guest has listed his home in Silver Lake. Guest is asking $1.1 million for the house, which he purchased in 2010 for $765K.

The stucco-walled house measures about 1,200 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and 1.5 baths. Its build date is unspecified, but it looks to be a 1960’s construction.

The home is compact, but makes very good use of its available space; the sense of flow is nicely sustained throughout. It isn’t glamorous, by any means, but it does manage a pretty heady sense of bohemian charm and artful functionality. The cook stove in the kitchen and the gas stove in the master bedroom are both good examples, as is the office space with its modular shelving.

The outdoor living area, with its hardwood deck, ramshackle chimney, and quirky backyard lounging area contributes to the youthfully creative atmosphere as well. Exposed beams and original hardwood floors add warming influence, and walls occasionally rendered in muted green cool things down and balance things out.

But the open concept communal living areas, with their modernist light fixtures and French doors leading to the deck, is the most appealing area of the home. The kitchen really is nicely done; effortlessly hip, it begs for a Betty Roche record on the stereo during intense culinary explorations of the outer limits of red sauce.

Andrew Guest’s production and writing credits include ‘Community’ and ‘Brooklyn Nine Nine.’
