The Wong residence—once the home of ex-married couple Scarlett Johansson and Ryan Reynolds—has returned to the market, this time with an asking price a dollar short of five mil. The couple paid $2.9 million for the property in 2010, and sold it about two years later for $3.5 million, after conduction renovations which included the addition of solar power.

The house, constructed in 1969, is a modernist design with strong Japanese design elements; extended roof, pergola entrance, and abundant glass and woodgrain to blur the boundary between interior living space and natural world. The architecture firm, Buff and Hensman, drafted many striking modern homes in the Los Angeles area, and the Wong house is one of their more romantic efforts.

The home measures 2,835 square feet, and contains three bedrooms and 2.5 baths. Under Johansson and Reynolds’ ownership, the house was converted to a two bedroom design, but it has since been converted back again.

With all the earth tones, and the emphasis on wood and tile, the interior of the home is rendered very warm, but it never feels unduly enclosed. On the contrary, interior and exterior are extensions of one another. A sense of authenticity results, and the outdoor lounge areas are as pleasing in their quiet visual insistence as the open-concept communal space within. An outdoor soaking tub in the walled garden off the master bath, then, follows quite naturally.

Johansson and Reynolds are both remarried. Johansson’s most recent film role is in the upcoming ‘Ghost in the Shell,’ due to be released at the end of the month. Reynolds’ appears in sci-fi suspense film ‘Life,’ also due in theaters at the end of this month.
