Sony recently announced some new features in its camera lineup, adding a pair of new lenses and a radio-controlled flash to expand its bokeh offerings.

Bokeh is the visual effect of utilizing out-of-focus areas in a picture, adding contrast that results in a clearer subject.

The two new lenses, the FE 100mm STF GM OSS and the FE 85mm F/1.8 Prime models, give the Sony system masterful new ways to capture this bokeh style in stunning fashion.

The FE 100mm STF GM OSS comes with an 11-blade aperture that has been specially designed for bokeh shooting; the lens creates out-of-focus areas, offering visual appeal by increasing the sense of space between subject and  background. The OSS in the name indicates that the lens is stabilized, with the GM standing for G Master, which designates it as part of Sony’s flagship series. The lens is weather sealed.

The FE 85mm f/1.8 boasts a nine-blade aperture and a double linear motor for a silent and fast autofocus. This is the more cost-effective of the two new options, and will appeal to a broad spectrum of photographers, from shutterbugs to professionals, by virtue of its versatility; it’s a set-and-forget lens.

Along with the new lenses, Sony has released a new flash, dubbed HVL-F45RM, which is designed to work with the Japanese brand’s A7 series of cameras. The small flash utilizes radio control, so that photographers don’t require a direct line of sight between the flash and the transceiver.

Both of Sony’s new lenses will come to North America beginning in March, with the flash set to be available in May. The lenses will list at $1,500 for the 100mm and $600 for the 85mm, while the flash is expected to retail for $400.
