German automotive customizer Mansory’s take on the outback-chic Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6 turns a nifty upscale SUV into a real post-apocalypse touring car. It looks the part, and its appearance follows through into performance. What’s not to love?

Beginning with the drivetrain fundamentals, the Mansory craftspeople rebuild the 5.5L twin-turbo V8 engine with genuine racing components: pistons, crankshaft, cylinder heads, rods. The finished internal combustion powerhouse pushes a walloping 829HP, which means the four-ton finished product should be adequately provided for, with a little surplus juice for towing purposes. Additional side vents allow for the additional cooling needed, and an overhauled and improved stainless steel exhaust adds efficiency. Visible carbon fiber body parts relieve the weight a little, while adding tensile strength and corrosion resistance.

The headlamps also get a revision, into blindingly bright bi-xenon bulb units, as do mirror housings (presumably indestructible), interior (cushy Alcantara, and wood, carbon, or aluminum trim for custom-cosmetic appeal), and composite front and rear air deflectors (also presumably indestructible). A set of four rooftop-mounted lamps provide extra illumination; when the grid goes down big time, you might need it. Hope springs eternal.

The Mansory bespoke G63 6×6 prices out at around $1.1 million. A Mercedes-AMG G63 6×6’s sticker price is $600K.
