Blancpain brought back its Bathyscaphe diving watch as part of its Fifty Fathoms collection in 2013, and now the nearly 300-year-old watch brand has introduced a slimmed down 38mm version that more accurately recalls the divers from the 1950s that the timepiece was originally based off of.

The rebirthed Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe that came out in 2013 measured in at 43mm, so the new limited edition 38mm Bathyscaphe had to be re-crafted from the ground up, including a new dial that honors the original Bathyscaphe that came out in 1953.

The smaller case is also thinner, shaving almost 3mm off the thickness and bringing it down to 10.77mm. Though this isn’t a first for Blancpain to go so skinny, it is the first time in a Fifty Fathoms timepiece that is targeted toward men.

Blancpain is offering the 38mm Bathyscaphe in one color scheme, a deep dark blue that recalls the mystery of the deep ocean. This mesmerizing color is found on the ceramic bezel and dial of the timepiece.

Powering the limited edition 38mm Bathyscaphe is the brand’s Caliber 1150, with the movement seen through the large sapphire backing of the case. The automatic movement boasts a 100-hour power reserve.

Pricing for the 38mm Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe has yet to be revealed, but it is known that this special model isn’t replacing the 43mm version in the collection.
