Ahead of an apparent defection to the East, Emily Blunt and John Krasinski have been liquidating their L.A. real estate portfolio. In the past year they’ve sold three properties, including homes in West L.A. and Laurel Canyon, which collectively fetched around $10 million.
The third property to sell is this substantial, brick-and-tradition Colonial in Ojai, the centerpiece of an estate in the upscale, laid-back valley that stretches out across a little over five acres. It was initially listed in 2015 for $4.25 million, adjusted to $2.5 million, and finally sold for $2.4 million. The couple paid $2.15 for the estate in 2012.
The home measures 4,177 square feet, and contains four bedrooms and 4.5 baths. It is a tasteful home, if a bit innocuous; a winding staircase continues the sense of meandering space within the property, walls are dressed in softy soothing cool tones, and hardwood floors fulfill the expectations of the overall design: homey, comfortable, and slightly escapist. The kitchen is flat-out country, with a tile backsplash behind the cooking area and counters, wood-toned and white cabinetry, and just enough metallic surface to add a little contemporary sheen. Four fireplaces give a bit of countryside credibility. Appealingly, the home features a solar power system, and its own well.
The exterior of the property, though, is perhaps where the estate finds its purpose; the stone pool and spa area, sloping lawns, and beautiful mountain views all offer a great deal of breathing room.
Emily Blunt is a successful actress. Known for a somewhat gothic acting style, she possesses a unique intensity on the screen, occasionally displaying an almost heartbreakingly world-weary vulnerability. She’s at her best when she plays a strong female lead, as in her role in 2016’s ‘The Girl on the Train.’
John Krasinski is best known for his role in the long-running U.S. adaptation of ‘The Office.’ He has numerous film credits to his name, having appeared in 2004’s ‘Kinsey’ and 2005’s ‘Jarhead.’ 2009’s ‘Brief Interviews with Hideous Men’ gave him the opportunity to stretch out creatively; he wrote, produced and directed the film, an adaptation of a story by David Foster Wallace. Krasinski also co-wrote, co-produced and took a lead in 2012’s ‘Promised Land,’ directed by arthouse heavyweight Gus Van Sant.
