Lamborghini’s new Urus SUV won’t be the Italian supercar brand’s first such model. Lambo actually made one back in 1986 dubbed the LM002, but it is set to revolutionize the SUV market like never before.

While every road-worthy Lamborghini model since the automaker was founded has featured a naturally aspirated engine, the Urus will deviate from that staunch design model.

Lambo research and development department head Maurizio Reggiani said the powerplant for the new SUV will be a twin-turbocharged, 4.0-liter V8 engine that will offer jaw-dropping performance specs.

On top of being the first-ever turbocharged powerplant in a Lambo, the Urus will also feature a gasoline-electric plug-in hybrid drivetrain.

Lamborghini has yet to release technical details of how this custom drivetrain will work, but Reggiani did claim the Urus will be the only plug-in Lambo model when it goes on sale, spelling doom for those who had hoped a hybrid example of the Huracan or Aventador was coming soon.

The Urus concept was first shown off in 2015, but Lamborghini said the design of the SUV has undergone a massive evolution from then.

Lamborghini plans on displaying the Urus at a major auto show sometime in 2017 and expects to bring the SUV to worldwide sales floors in 2018.
