Married actors Katie Lowes and Adam Shapiro have listed this Craftsman-influenced bungalow in Los Angeles for sale. The price is $1.375 million.
Measuring a tight 1,609 square feet, but with an open feel belying its available space, the cottage features a cozy three bedrooms and two and a half baths. Constructed in 1922, the style is certainly influenced by the American Craftsman movement, but the elements are not terribly overt.
Inside, the foyer leads to a staircase to the first level; altogether an early modern first impression. Recessed lighting adds a dash of the contemporary as the foyer blends into living room, dining room, and kitchen. Plenty of windows offer abundant light, and the hardwood flooring throughout warms things up nicely. French doors lead to the three-tiered deck. A window seat in the kitchen adds to the pleasantly homey, bright, and somewhat innocuous feel.
The master bedroom continues the pattern, with another set of French doors opening to the green West Coast suburban vista. The master bath contains some nice tiling; the surprising use of a dramatic color choice works quite well, and does not subvert the overall feel established by the rest of the main floor.
The second, lower level is given over to additional bedrooms, one of which has been converted into a fitness studio. It, too, opens onto the property, and gardens which contain fruit-bearing citrus trees, olive trees, outside dining and lounge areas, and an additional self-contained cottage. Altogether, an easygoing little escape which the couple may be selling in anticipation of additional family members.
Katie Lowes is currently appearing in the hit ABC series ‘Scandal,’ a prime-time political soap containing more plot contrivances than Netflix’s remake of ‘House of Cards.’ She and husband Shapiro helped found the IAMA Theater Company, which is dedicated to furthering the dramatic arts by fostering new talent and continuing interest in the stage.
