Johnny Depp won’t be the only one loading moving trucks at Los Angeles’ Eastern Columbia soon. Billionaire investor Ron Burkle also managed to move a unit there recently, selling his penthouse apartment for $2.5 million. With the apartment coming in at a hair over 2,010 square feet, that $2.5 million represents one of the highest prices paid per square foot ever in the Historic Core district, one of the city’s residential growth epicenters since the turn of the century.

Burkle’s super modern pad offers a stark contrast to the boho/Art Deco design touches of Depp’s five apartments, and we have to say, we like it. Floors of concrete would be right at home in a contemporary art museum, while an industrial steel staircase allows guests to traverse the apartment’s three stories, pairing nicely with the home’s exposed ductwork.

A large open living area is partitioned into a formal living space and an informal dining area, separated from the chrome-cabineted chef’s kitchen by a butcher block island. Beneath the living area is a master bedroom with lounge seating, a home office and a striking accent wall that makes for a magnificent headboard.

A private terrace above the home sits just under a clock tower face, and a balcony below offers views of the downtown corridor.

The apartment had only spent two weeks on the market, with an original asking price of $3 million.
