Tesla S P100D Is Now the Fastest Production Car in the World

Fastest production car in the world? Tesla Model S. Fastest SUV in the world? Tesla Model X. Any questions?

In recent times, Automaker Tesla casually proceeded to annihilate 0-60 mph times—long-standing indicators of engineering excellence in gas-powered vehicles (arguably). Only two cars are faster—the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder—but they are no longer in production, so neither can be bought new. Besides, they were produced in very limited numbers since they were squarely in the hypercar category.

The Model S features an improved Ludicrous mode with the rollout of a new 100-kilowatt-hour battery option. The range is also extended from 270 miles to 315 miles per charge, making it the first electric car on the market to have a range beyond 300 miles.

The Model X will also sport an improved range of 250 miles to 289 miles with the new battery option. The larger battery pack makes the Model X the world’s fastest SUV with a zero-to-60 time of just 2.9 seconds.

Some Tesla drivers won’t have to ditch their current ride for the new battery since they’ll be able to upgrade their P90D Ludicrous (Model S or Model X) for $20,000. Those who have ordered one of those vehicles and haven’t yet taken delivery will have the option to do so for only $10,000.

Interested buyers looking for a new vehicle can expect the Model S P100D to start at $134,500 and the Model X P100D to start at $135,500. (Vehicle prices do not reflect tax credits and other savings.)
