New products are constantly unveiled in the booming home automation market, but few are as unique as Logitech’s Pop.

Pop is a physically depressible Bluetooth button that can be customized to accomplish virtually any task assigned to it. Versatile and stylish, the gadget sports a flat rear cover so it can be affixed to nearly any flat surface.

The spring-mounted, internet-connected button can be pressed once to trigger routines, while alternate commands like a rapid dual touch or a sustained tap can elicit different responses.

Users can program actions (like dimming a living room light or turning on a projector) to different button presses easily using Pop’s smartphone app.

“You still want to be simple, you still want to be capable. And so we landed on three gestures, as something from a mental model that would be easy enough that a user would know those gestures,” explained Neil Raggio, Logitech’s Senior Director of Home Control.

Shipping in the U.S. starts this month. A single Pop Switch is available for $40, and the two-button starter pack with a plug-in bridge is priced at $100.
