The Briggs Automotive Company already has one of the lightest, fastest single-seat roadsters on the market, so it’s a big deal when the company has been able to cut the weight of its Mono even further.

Thanks to some serious experimentation with graphene-based body panels, the British boutique car maker has been able to size the Mono down to 1,279 pounds. And Graphene isn’t just used to cut weight, it also helps with strength and performance.

Considered as one of the strongest materials on the planet, graphene is an amazing 200-times stronger than steel and is also the thinnest compound known to man at a single atom thick. The super-material is also able to conduct electricity and heat quite well.

This new material has the ability to revolutionize several industries, so it’s no surprise that BAC is using it to reimagine Mono’s design. However, BAC isn’t the first to so. Spanish supercar outfit Spania GTA used graphene in the body and chassis of the GTA Spano.

BAC’s use of graphene could reduce a vehicle’s weight up to 20 percent, which is a big deal for an already impressive 305-bhp single-seater with a 2.8 second, zero-to-60 mph time.
