Former Urban Outfitters CEO and Anthropologie-Exec Partner Ask $17M for Funky NYC Townhouse

Keith Johnson, a former buyer-at-large with Anthropologie and husband Glen Senk, the former Urban Outfitters CEO, are looking to sell their gorgeously decorated Greenwich Village home according to reports. The fashion retail power couple is asking $17 million for the 19th-century Anglo-Italianate townhouse located at 58 West 9th Street.

They first purchased the home in 2012 for $8.3 million, undertaking a gut renovation to switch it back from apartments to a single-family home. Eclectically styled accents throughout artfully wed rustic and chic looks, but the pièce de résistance may be the enormous Tuscan chef’s kitchen they added, which is home to a brick oven, floors of stone imported from Bologna, Italy, and counters reclaimed from a park near Philadelphia’s Independence Hall.

All in all, the five-story home includes four bedrooms, four-and-a-half baths and an unbelievable 10 working fireplaces with antique French and English mantels.

The formal dining room is an homage to the sculpture studio of Gertrude Vanderbilt Whitney, whose flame-covered walls were the inspiration for Senk and Johnson’s mural, painted by students at the New York Studio School. The room is topped off with a Murano glass chandelier by artist Yuichi Higashionna.

A second floor Art Deco-inspired bar includes gilded mirror walls, while its adjoining sitting room opens to a front balcony with neighborhood views. The library is distinguished by polished walls, a Gothic bookcase and a large hearth. The master suite takes up the entire third floor and includes a large walk-through closet and a bathroom featuring an antique needle shower with tiered jets.

In a 2014 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the couple raved about their affinity for the house, saying they planned “on being here for quite some time.” No word on what made them change their minds, but one lucky buyer will certainly end up scoring a home built with love.
