Many car companies have developed collaboration projects with everything from fashion to golf to home décor. But now BMW has teamed up with Puma to create a truly futuristic piece of footwear dubbed the X-Cat Disc running shoe.

The X-Cat Disc uses the same ultra-light, man-made fabric featured in one of BMW’s concept cars, Project GINA. In the car, the waterproof material is used in place of the usual steel or carbon-fiber body, but now it’s being utilized as the perfect substance for the running shoe.

The laces of the X-Cat have been replaced in favor of Puma’s Disc system, which means tightening or loosening the shoe is as easy as turning a disc that controls elastic tendons.

BMW’s Project GINA is currently in a car museum, but luckily for athletes around the globe, the new Puma X-Cat Disc was released on July 1 in select stores worldwide.
