Just in time for this year’s Wheels & Waves festival, which offers a laid-back celebration of all things motorcycles, BMW Motorrad introduced a new version of the BMW R nineT called the BMW Motorrad Concept Lac Rose.
The new concept pays homage to past Paris-Dakar Rally heroes and their BMW bikes.
“The BMW Motorrad Concept Lac Rose is our laid-back and very individual interpretation of the bike that won the Paris-Dakar Rally in 1985 – fully in line with the spirit of Wheels & Waves and its visitors. It puts the BMW R nineT into an exciting new context and shows what passion for our brand heritage, imagination, and a few modifications can achieve” said Edgard Heinrich, Head of Design at BMW Motorrad.
Lac Rose is the name of the rose-colored Retba salt lake near Dakar, and it’s where the legendary Paris-Dakar rally ended. In the 1980s, BMW factory machines enjoyed victories three years in a row.
Inspired by the former victory bike, the BMW Motorrad Concept Lac Rose is a modern and street-friendly roadster. Fans will find a traditional headlamp with a high mudguard, a short rallye seat bench, and a large fuel tank.
The concept bike sports spoke wheels with studded tires, a hallmark BMW two-cylinder flat twin engine with shaft drive, and the start number 101. Additionally, there’s even an exclusively designed BMW rider suit and helmet to complete the Lac Rose Concept design.
The fifth annual Wheels & Waves Festival just concluded last week in Biarritz on the French Atlantic coast.
