Nikon is releasing a new line of premium compact cameras that have been designed to be used as secondary cameras for DSLR users. Named the DL-series, these new cameras are the embodiment of Nikon’s response to the PowerShot G-series from Canon and the RX-series from Sony.

The DL-series comes with fixed Nikkor lenses and 1-inch, 20.8 megapixel back-illuminated CMOS sensors for optimal image quality and the best possible low-light performance.

The new Nikon line also features quick autofocusing and continuous shooting of up to 20 frames per second, or 60 fps with a locked focus because of a new Expeed 6A image processor. The DL-series cameras will also be able to shoot 4K UHD video and photos in RAW.

The DL-series will have three examples, the DL18-50, DL24-84, and DL-24-500, with the model names indicating the focal length of the lenses. Prices for the new DL-series range from $650 – $1,000 and will be available for purchase this summer.
