Audi took another bold step toward the future at the Detroit Motor Show with the introduction of its h-tron Quattro Concept. Audi is not ruling out hydrogen fuel cells in its search for more fuel efficiency and environmental friendliness.

The h-tron Quattro features a fuel cell with an output of 147 hp and a battery that can provide a temporary addition of 134 hp. It can be refueled with hydrogen in about four minutes and drive up to just under 400 miles.

The stack of 330 fuel cells, combined with the attached lithium-ion battery compilation allows the h-tron Quattro to go from zero to 62 mph in less than seven seconds with a top speed of 124 mph.

The interior of Audi’s new concept features OLED screens in front of the driver and two screens in the virtual cockpit to control the infotainment system.

While only time will tell if Audi will make the h-tron Concept a reality, but much of the technology featured in the car might hit production models as soon as the 2017 model year.
