Luxury automaker BMW has been busy trying to convince Chinese drivers that smart cars aren’t the only vehicles made for their streets. In fact, the brand has unveiled its Concept Compact Sedan at the Guangzhou Motor Show and intends to only produce the car for China.

The entry-level sedan is anything but basic with wedge-shaped headlights and a wide kidney-shaped grill with chromed horizontal slats. Targeted toward young Chinese drivers, the new concept is ultra-modern with a spoiler built into the trunk lid and L-shaped LED taillights.

Much like a smaller 3-Series on the outside, the interior is completely original with a futuristic aesthetic featuring a driver-oriented center console, simple gauges, and a three-spoke steering wheel.

Although technical specs haven’t been revealed, it’s believed that the concept will take its place on the same UKL platform as the new X1.

A China-only model is a bold step for the German automaker, but deciding not to unveil the vehicle at the Los Angeles Motor Show means the brand is serious about expanding in the Asian market.
