Frequent American Luxury readers will recall that Rowan Atkinson, the actor most popular for portraying the British slapstick character Mr. Bean, was trying to sell his twice-crashed McLaren F1 for a hefty $12 million. It is now being reported that Atkinson has sold the vehicle, and that he is “pleased” with the sale.

“It is one of the biggest ever deals in the UK,” said David Clark, head of specialist car dealer Taylor and Crawley, who helped with the sale. “Rowan is pleased, but also maybe a bit sad as he did 40,000 miles in it.”

Atkinson crashed the McLaren first in 1997 and then again in 2011 in an accident that nearly split the car in two. He had McLaren fix the car at nearly twice the original cost of $810,000, resulting in one of the biggest auto insurance claims in history.

The McLaren F1 is packing a 6.1-liter naturally aspirated V12 that pumps out 627 HP.
