The BMW X5 xDrive40e has many unique and luxurious features of note, but one of the most interesting is the new vehicle marks the first time that BMW has released a plug-in hybrid SUV. The vehicle is in fact BMW’s first plug-in hybrid in its core line (vehicles not including the BMW i sub-brand).

The X5 is powered by a four-cylinderengine with BMW TwinPower Turbo technology, coupled with a synchronous electric motor that pumps out 313 HP. That is enough power to propel the vehicle from standstill to 62 MPH in just 6.8 seconds, while topping out at 130 MPH. The X5 can travel 19 miles on electric power alone. The speed is limited to 75 mph when running on the electric motor alone.

The battery pack is located underneath the luggage compartment to save space and ensure that the interior stays spacious. BMW also announced other features like dynamic damper control, permanent four-wheel drive when running in electric mode, and self-leveling rear air suspension.
