Developed by Japanese scientists, the Robear is a robot designed to aid in the care of elderly.
The Robear is capable of lifting patients to and from bed, help a patient into a wheelchair, or provide standing assistance. It has quick-moving joints to ensure a smooth ride. The extendable legs at the robot’s base ensure that the Robear has balance. The legs are also retractable, so the Robear can fit into tight spaces.
“We really hope that this robot will lead to advances in nursing care, relieving the burden on care-givers today,” Toshiharu Mukai, leader of the robot sensor systems research team, said. “We intend to continue with research toward more practical robots capable of providing powerful yet gentle care to elderly people.”
