Mercedes-Benz has never been one to shy away form competition, thus they are taking on BMW’s hugely popular X6 crossover with their new coupe-style SUV, the Mercedes-Benz GLE Coupe.
The goal of the GLE Coupe is to give drivers the luxury of being in an SUV with the feel and power of a sports car.
“Despite the similarity to an SUV with its raised seating position and expansive all-round view, the occupants are led to believe that they are in sports rather than off-road mode,” According to a Mercedes-Benz press release. “The sound is reminiscent of powerful sports cars, while the spontaneous and direct response to all commands is guaranteed to get your pulse racing.”
As mentioned above, the car will feature a few different drive modes, including Sport, Sport+, and off-road. To handle the off-road terrain, the GLE has AIRMATIC air suspension.
The GLE 450 AMG 4Matic Coupe will pack a V-6 engine that churns out 362 ponies and has a nine-speed automatic transmission. There will also be a non-AMG model available.
“The GLE 450 AMG Coupe is our first sports model, and further highly emotional and performance-oriented models will follow in the near future,” Tobias Moers, Mercedes’ chairman of the board of management, said. “The new product line from Mercedes-AMG has allowed us to make true sports car technology and the fascination of motorsports more accessible.”
The GLE will also feature all the safety and luxury features Mercedes-Benz is known for like cross traffic assist, park assist with a rear camera that displays video on an 8-inch display, and pedestrian detection.
Pricing information and an official release date have yet to be announced by Mercedes-Benz.
