Increasingly, people on the luxury market are looking for furniture that is part practical and part artwork. With this philosophy in mind, British designer Gigi Barker has created a chair and a stool utilizing a material that looks and feels like human skin.

Utilizing a silicone material crafted into shapes inspired by male models, Barker hopes that the chairs evoke a feeling of “being comfortable in one’s own skin.”

The chairs do not tell you how you have to sit on them. You can lay down and stretch out or perch yourself on the edge of the chair. The material matches the body temperature of those who are sitting on it, creating a feeling of comfort and warmth. The material is even infused with the smell of aftershave, to further the experience of the chair being distinctly human.

Barker’s unique creation is currently going for around $4,000.
