Unexpected alliances can yield wondrous results. Such is the case with the new Bvlgari x MB&F Serpenti, a serpentine wonder born of the imaginative union between Italian jewelry icon Bvlgari and Swiss horological rebel MB&F.

This slithering sculpture melds Bvlgari’s rich heritage of Roman elegance with MB&F’s futuristic horological machinations. The Serpenti has been an emblem of Bvlgari since the 1940s, its sinuous silhouette inspiring bold bracelets, necklaces and watches. MB&F, founded in the early 2000s, has redefined watchmaking through its Horological Machines—sculptural, science fiction-inspired wristwatches.

To reinvent this historic serpent as a Horological Machine, Bvlgari and MB&F embarked on an intense design journey, resulting in hundreds of sketches and 3D printed models. The final product is a technical tour-de-force, with a biomorphic case of complex curves beguilingly cloaked in titanium, rose gold or black PVD steel. Five arched sapphire crystals, equally arduous to produce, form the serpent’s hypnotic eyes and faceted scales.

Within, an esoteric manually wound movement animates the ophidian marvel. The serpent’s shining eyes revolve to indicate the hours and minutes, while a flying balance wheel—the mechanical heart—oscillates at a graceful 18,000 vibrations per hour. Flip the watch over to reveal the meticulously finished movement, with power reserve indicator and automotive-inspired details.

This collaborative creature required pushing the envelope of both watchmaking ingenuity and manufacturing capabilities. The resulting synergy of Bvlgari’s bold Italian flair and MB&F’s mechanical wizardry has birthed a seductive sculpture that entrances the eye.

The titanium and black PVD steel versions of the Bvlgari x MB&F Serpenti carry a price tag of $148,000, while the rose gold version is priced at $170,000. Each variant is limited to 33 pieces.
