Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre recently unveiled the Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 184. This new artistic interpretation of the exceptional Calibre 184 movement unites three of watchmaking’s greatest complications with sophisticated decorative crafts.
First debuted in 2019, Calibre 184 brings together a bi-axial Gyrotourbillon, perpetual calendar, minute repeater with Westminster chimes, constant force mechanism, and a leaping date display. It takes a single watchmaker over five months to assemble the movement’s 1052 components.
For the Master Hybris Artistica, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s artisans have reinterpreted Calibre 184 with intricate Grand Feu enamel work and lacquering on the dial. Soft curves contrast with geometric patterns in black enamel on the subdials, anchored by a smoky sapphire center. The lower half reveals the mesmerizing Gyrotourbillon and repeater hammers styled like wings.
The case comprises over 80 components showcasing polished, brushed, and micro-blasted finishes. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s designers have added black lacquered plates to the sides featuring the same geometric motif as the dial.
Calibre 184 brings together Jaeger-LeCoultre’s mastery of chiming mechanisms, precision, and astronomical complications. The Gyrotourbillon has been completely re-engineered for a more compact size. The patented crystal gongs connect directly to the crystal for improved sound. The intuitive perpetual calendar can be set forwards or backwards.
Viewed through the sapphire caseback, the calibre dazzles with meticulous hand-finishing. Jaeger-LeCoultre has united horology’s highest skills in the Master Hybris Artistica Calibre 184—certain to be a highlight among connoisseurs and collectors alike. After its debut in Beijing, a white gold version will follow. Just five pieces of each will be produced.
