McLaren has taken the wraps off its latest Ultimate Series model, the revolutionary W1. As the successor to the legendary F1 and P1, the W1 sets new benchmarks for performance and technology.
Powered by an all-new twin-turbo V8 hybrid powertrain producing a colossal 1,258 hp, the W1 boasts the highest power output of any McLaren road car. Combined with a feathery curb weight of just 3,084 lbs, it achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 899 hp per tonne—the best of any McLaren model.
This immense power propels the W1 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds, and to 124 mph in a mind-boggling 5.8 seconds. Top speed is electronically limited to 217 mph. The W1 also introduces McLaren’s first 8-speed transmission and an electronic differential for heightened driver engagement.
But it’s the radical aerodynamics that truly set the W1 apart. The teardrop-shaped body generates huge downforce using Formula 1-derived ground effects. An active rear wing extends up to 11.8 inches to further boost downforce. In Race mode, the W1 hunkers down to produce over 2,200 lbs of downforce at speed.
The carbon fiber monocoque chassis employs F1-style inboard suspension and pushrods for exceptional structural rigidity. State-of-the-art tech like 3D printed titanium components help minimize weight.
Inside, the cabin focuses wholly on the driver with a bespoke steering wheel, moving pedals and controls placed for optimal ergonomics. Seating is actually integrated into the monocoque for a true racecar experience.
With a base price around $2.1 million, just 399 W1 models will be hand-built for customers at McLaren’s UK factory. This exclusive new flagship demonstrates that McLaren remains at the cutting edge of supercar engineering.
