HYT has ascended to the apex with their new limited-edition Conical Tourbillon Panda, a striking fusion of mechanical precision and precious materials. Only eight of these horological treasures will be crafted, priced at a cool CHF 355,000 apiece, or about $393,000.
At the heart of this timepiece lies a dynamic duality, much like the ancient concept of yin and yang. Bold black ceramic and titanium juxtapose pristine white agate spheres, representing the dichotomy of light and dark. The conical tourbillon with its inclined balance wheel epitomizes the ceaseless shift between movement and stillness. In similar vein, the fluids that indicate the hours flow in contradiction to the minutes marked by the hands.
HYT draws inspiration from the pioneering work of German watchmaker Walter Prendel, who improved tourbillon regulation by angling the balance. His research established Groitzsch, Saxony as a horology hub on par with Switzerland. By incorporating an inclined tourbillon, HYT nods to history while advancing its fluid-based time display.
The 30-second conical tourbillon takes center stage, bordered by three rotating 2.5mm agate spheres like orbiting moons. Six smaller satellites spin around the titanium tourbillon cage, evoking the celestial choreography of a mechanical solar system. The variegated rotation speeds symbolize the relativity and subjectivity of time’s passage.
The dual-sided anti-reflective crystal speaks to the same concept of duality, allowing luminescence to permeate from both exterior and interior. The 750-component watch is a study in nuanced contrasts—light and dark, static and kinetic, liquid and solid.
With the Conical Tourbillon Panda, HYT has crafted a pioneering timepiece that explores the yin and yang of time. This particular pairing of fluid mechanics with a tourbillon represents a unique combination, one that only eight lucky collectors will get to examine up close.
