An extravagant Potomac, Maryland estate is being transformed from a symbol of arrival into a boon for cancer patients and research. Billionaire Dan Snyder, owner of the Washington Commanders football team, and his wife Tanya have donated their 30,000 square foot, $34.9 million chateau estate to the American Cancer Society (ACS).
The gift was announced by the ACS this month and is expected to significantly advance their cancer research and patient support services once the property is sold. Tanya Snyder, herself a cancer survivor and former ACS Mother of the Year, has been a passionate advocate for cancer awareness. The transformative real estate gift emanates from the Snyders’ longstanding philanthropic commitment to the ACS mission.
The palatial stone mansion, constructed in 2004 on 9.65 acres, was originally listed by Snyder last year for $49 million before the price dropped. The property includes a guest house, pool, gym, media room, and 15 acres of protected lands abutting the estate.
Upon sale, the gift’s proceeds will provide an influx of unrestricted funds for the ACS to disburse towards enhanced community support programs, groundbreaking research projects, and advocacy for improved patient access.
Snyder’s net worth is around $4.4 billion, per Forbes.
