Rivian shook up the electric vehicle world recently with the unveiling of two new midsize SUVs, the R2 and R3, built on an all-new platform developed to deliver performance, range and cost-efficiency.
Starting at around $45,000, the R2 brings Rivian’s trademark adventure styling and tech to a more accessible price point. Design highlights include a powered rear glass that fully drops into the tailgate and front quarter windows that vent open, creating a one-of-a-kind open-air driving experience. The R2 seats five and has folding rear seats and ample cargo space for gear, making it primed for outdoor adventures.
The R3 crossover SUV maximizes interior space while maintaining a sporty silhouette. Rivian is also releasing a high-performance R3X variant for even more dynamic on and off-road abilities. Both R2 and R3 models will offer single, dual and tri-motor configurations, with the fastest accelerating from 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds.
Rivian developed an all-new midsize platform to underpin the R2 and R3, using design innovations to consolidate and eliminate parts for greater efficiency. The models also feature Rivian’s signature battery pack integrated into the chassis, providing over 300 miles of range. Rivian’s new 4695 battery cell significantly improves energy density and output.
With their intentional design balancing form and function, the R2 and R3 stay true to Rivian’s inviting style while adapting it to new form factors. Rivian aims to make their vehicles more accessible, and the R2 and R3 deliver the brand’s key attributes at lower price points than their flagship R1T and R1S models. Rivian is now taking R2 reservations for $100, with deliveries starting in early 2026. The R3 will follow.
