2024 Porsche 911 S/T: Lightest 911 of Current Gen, Boxer Engine, Manual Gearbox

Porsche collectors and tradition-minded sports car drivers take note: a 60th anniversary 911 is on the way for the 2024 model year. Porsche calls the limited-run 992 variant the 911 S/T, and it comes loaded with an all-business drivetrain package that mates the company’s 518 horsepower 4.0L engine with a manual gearbox.

Weight — or rather the lack of it — is paramount in the 911 S/T, in fact. At just over 3,000 pounds, Porsche claims it is the lightest 911 of the current 992 generation. Although the model highlights Porsche racing history, the car’s métier is road travel…specifically, freewheeling excursions on lonely, winding thoroughfares.

The antecedents of the 911 S/T are the 911 GT3 RS — the engine is borrowed from it — and the GT3 with Touring Package. A number of lightweight components specific to the 911 S/T enhance the car’s performance profile; the list includes Porsche’s Sport Exhaust system, a special clutch that’s unique to the edition (and mated to a single-mass flywheel), a rear spoiler Gurney flap, and a litany of carbon fiber-reinforced plastic parts. The model is outfitted with staggered center-locking magnesium wheels, 20-inch in front and 21-inch in back.

Interior and cosmetic touches also abound on the 911 S/T. Sports Seat Plus, typically a Porsche option, is standard, and the Chrono Package instruments are given a vintage Porsche treatment. A special Heritage Design Package option adds graphic identity to the model.

Porsche will make 1,963 examples of the 911 S/T before calling it a day; the sticker price begins at $291,650, with fees. The company plans to formally present the car at this year’s Laguna Seca Rennsport Reunion show between September 28 and October 1.
