Brash British sports car builder McLaren recently announced a specially wrapped Artura model sporting abstract graphics designed by German artist Cevin Parker.
The treatment makes the Artura art car a singular brand representation. Yet the model is also a brand halo: it is the first McLaren to be outfitted with a hybrid powertrain. With its new sartorial flourish, this particular hybrid supercar is something of a McLaren ambassador.
McLaren tapped Parker for the commission because he, like McLaren, is a bit of a gifted youngster. McLaren road-car design and production began just over a decade ago; Parker is an art-world wunderkind who was invited to exhibit at Hamburg’s IncubARTor. Sympatico disruptors, perhaps.
As for the Artura production car: it picks up from the legendary McLaren Speedtail, and is loaded with a super-efficient V6, the heart of a very lightweight powertrain enhanced by electric-motor response time. It can speed from 0-186 MPH in 21.5 seconds.
